September 16, 2014, 3:49 pm I received a call from 888-995-0740 and they left a message saying they were from the BBB, and to call back at that number to extension #122. I wasn't too sure about it because they didn't leave any names they were calling for, and just said they wanted to speak to the owner of the company or someone who can make financial decisions. So, instead of calling the number that was left and trying to play detective, hoping I ask the right questions. I got online and called my local BBB office and asked them some questions about it. They were able to confirm that this was indeed one of their offices and is part of the Business Relations Department. They call you to find out if you are interested in becoming a BBB accredited company. You ever see those plaques or signs that some companies have that say they are BBB accredited and wonder how they get those? This is how. Usually someone refers your company to them, or something stating you have a good company, and they call to find out if you would be willing to become accredited. If you say yes, they start going through the "inspection" process to become accredited. Since the BBB is a non-profit organization, it does cost a little money to become accredited. February 26, 2015, 6:21 pm This is the BBB or Better Business Bureau calling about membership. It's a real number for the organization so there is no fraud worries, but some people may still find the call annoying. They want $400 to get listed on their website. I'm not sure if this is a general line or not as some people on other sites have mentioned the possibility of someone calling you about complaints filed against your company.
